Freya Katkowsky, M.A., J.D.
Freya Katkowsky, our Managing Attorney, is an immigration lawyer for researchers, companies, and families. Before opening her law firm in 2012, she worked with international university students and faculty for many years teaching and editing scholarly writing in science, engineering, and law. She has a Master of Arts in Linguistics and a Juris Doctor. She has a special focus on EB2/National Interest Waivers and EB1/Alien of Extraordinary Ability as well as family based green cards. Because of her extensive university experience, she has a particular awareness of the immigration needs of international students and scholars. She spent five years in Japan and is conversant in Japanese.
Xi Lu (Lucy) Lorentz, L.L.B, L.L.M.
Xi Lu (Lucy) Lorentz, our Associate Attorney, has been working in the field of immigration for more than 10 years. Prior to joining Katkowsky Immigration Services, Ms. Lorentz has had a successful legal career working with diverse legal providers and business entities. Ms. Lorentz provides immigration legal services for a wide range of immigration matters on both the national and global level, assisting foreign workers to maintain or acquire legal status on H-1B, H-2B, L-1, TN, B visas and filing employment-based petitions on NIW, EB-1A, EB-1B, EB-2, as well as family based immigration visas (I-485, I-130). In addition to English, Ms. Lorentz also speaks fluent Mandarin and Cantonese.
Hsiao Mei Chou, B.S., J.D.
Hsiao Mei Chou, Esq., is Of Counsel to Katkowsky Immigration Services, having joined the firm in 2018. Prior to joining KIS, Ms. Chou practiced at a firm in New York City, specializing in civil litigation in the areas of medical malpractice, products liability, and general negligence. She has over eight years of experience handling complex litigation matters from inception through trial at both the state and federal levels. She has extensive experience in identifying case issues, developing strategies and obtaining favorable outcomes through mediation, settlement or through trial.
Ms. Chou received her Juris Doctor degree from New York Law School in 2006 and her Bachelors degree from University of Wisconsin, Madison. She is admitted to practice in New York and Wisconsin.
Mary Kovell, Paralegal
Mary Kovell, our paralegal and office assistant, has five years of paralegal experience. She has a Bachelor of Science in Culinary Management.
